6-14-17 MSS Construction Update by Ms. Welch's & Ms. Bell's Classes

Do you want to learn about Main Street School construction?? Mrs. Welch’s and Ms. Bell’s classes sat down for a chat with Mr. Adler to find out more about what’s going on outside our windows.
The construction workers are using a crane right now! They are using the crane to lift up bars and put them in their places. These are going to be the support beams! Support beams are really important because they hold up the joists and the floor. When we looked out the window, we saw a yellow tube curled up in a circle. We found out that the yellow tube will bring water into the building to the sinks and water fountains. We found out the workers use a lot of tools. The construction workers are starting to build the frames of the classrooms. They are building it so that we can have full day kindergarten. There will be 8 new classrooms, and 3 classrooms are being renovated.

One student asked if Mr. Adler thought that construction workers have fun. We decided that when the workers finish and look at all they’ve done, they might decide they had fun because they worked so hard and it came out so awesome. We decided this is a feeling second graders can have when we work hard and feel proud of our work. We like watching construction at Main Street School!

5/31/17 Construction Update from Mrs. Brown's Class

Mrs. Brown’s Class 5/31/17

Did you know Mrs. Brown’s class visited with Mr Adler about our school expansion for full day kindergarten? Mr. Adler presented blue prints and explained the reasons why we are adding onto our already “awesome” school! Here are some questions that we asked about the building project.
How big is the addition? Why does the crane stretch so far? How far can it stretch in inches or meters? Why are you using sand for filling in where the cement was put in? What tools are used for the building project besides the trucks? How long will it take to finish the project? How many workers are working on it? Mr. Adler answered all of our questions and we are very excited to get a “birds eye” view from our classroom to witness all of the changes and building taking place in our school!
We wrote our favorite “take aways” from our building project learning today. “ I learned that the project will be done for Fall 2018 full day kindergarten for my sister!” “ I learned that there will be about 40 cement trucks at our school tomorrow!” “We will have indoor recess on Friday because we have 40 cement trucks coming to MSS!” “I learned that it takes TEAMWORK and patience to build things!” “This is the 4th addition onto MSS!” “ I learned that it takes A LOT OF PATIENCE and people to build it!” “I learned about the year our school was originally built!” “I learned that some 2nd grade and kindergarten classrooms will move to the new addition.”
