reported by Mrs. Gregg’s Class
When the construction started, we saw lots of holes and mounds of dirt. We thought it looked like a dinosaur dig! We wanted to know more about what was going on, so Mr. Adler brought architectural plans to show us the floor plan for eight new classrooms. He read riddles to us from a poetry book about construction vehicles. We liked the poem about the excavator. Ten to twelve big vehicles come to our school every day!
Today we observed a humungous, giant crane that came to pour cement into the forms. We could observe from the Art Room stairwell. We noticed that multiple big holes have been dug, and Mr. Adler told us they are for footings. Footings make the building stable. They are building a concrete foundation wall. In another month, masons will come to do block work.
We learned that people have been planning how to build an addition to Main Street School for 7 years. That’s how long some of us have been alive! We liked the first step because that was to build our new playground! Do you think construction is interesting? We do.
